Project Announcement

2014-18 marks the centennial years of WWI.  Strathclair Museum Association is pleased to announce a special project entitled “Our Sacrifices:  World War Impacts on Strathclair Area Families”.  Watch this space for further details.

Request for Contributions

The Museum Association is implementing a project commemorating this area's sacrifices and contributions to Canada's participation in various conflicts. The period (2014-18) marks the centennial years of World War I but the project will also focus on World War II and other conflicts.

This project will result in several resources and exhibits:

  1. A permanent exhibit of Strathclair Legion and other War Time photos, documents and items which will be hosted by the Community Center.
  2. A Multi-media resource (Slide Show) which can be played as a video or a projected presentation and which will also be available on our Website
  3. A "Museum In A Box" collection of items for loan and classroom use by teachers

While we will draw on items already in the Museum and Archive collections we would be happy to accept additional donations of particular objects, documents or photographs which will add to the scope of our collection and contribute to the current project activities.

Items we would like:

• Letters from service men/women • Pieces of equipment used by service men/women
• Photographs taken by service men/women • Documents, Items and stories related to Rationing
• Letters or stories about hardships at home • Photographs of Women/Children doing farm work
• Details of Conscientious Objectors (Riding Mountain) • Stories about POWs at the Whitewater

Contributions of artifacts can be accepted as gifts with our thanks and will be credited to the donor. Unfortunately we cannot accept "loans". We can copy any photos or documents if the donor wishes to keep a copy or the original. We ask that you only leave articles with Archives personnel at the office (former RM Office in the Hall). This office will be staffed Wednesdays 9-11 am and Thursdays 1-3 pm from now until mid-January.
