Notes RODNEY PHILIP PARKER ** Rodney Parker was the youngest of seven children born to Mr. and Mrs. F.A. Parker of Section 20-15-22 in the Blanshard municipality. He received his education at Holylea and McConnell Schools. Following this, he worked on the home farm until 1940 when he joined the Royal Canadian Artillery. He served overseas from 1942 until February, 1945. He was wounded at Versailles near Caen in France. Upon his return, he purchased the S 1/2 34-15-22 from Mr. Alex Tomlin and started farming on his own. On November 2, 1946 Rod married Irene Fortune, elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G.S. Fortune of Cardale. They had one son, Kerry, born in January, 1953. In 1953 Rod became the manager of the Strathclair Consumer's Co-op and he and his family lived in Strathclair. In 1959 Rod decided he preferred farming to the business world so they moved back to the farm. Through the years, Rod and Irene were active in community endeavors, such as the Canadian Legion, the United Church, the Strathclair arena, and many others. In 1975 the Parkers built a new home in Strathclair and planned to take life a little easier. However, Rod passed away in June, 1976, a victim of cancer. Kerry Parker took all his schooling in Strathclair. He enjoyed swimming, curling and, during his growing up years, he played the organ part time at the Strathclair United Church. After completing his high school, Kerry worked at various jobs in Winnipeg, returning home in 1975. In the spring of 1976 he married Ruth Strickland of Brandon and they resided on the farm. As a result of an accident, Kerry passed away in June, 1980. Rod and Kerry are both buried in the Strathclair Cemetery. Excerpt taken from the Our History to 1984 Book
