Notes WOLFE CREEK NO. 817 * The pioneers, in an area about four miles north of the Ipswich siding, decided there was an urgent need for a school in their area. In March of 1894, a rate-payers meeting was held in the thatched roof, log home, of Mr. and Mrs. John Cameron, S.E. 19-17-22. It was decided to prepare a petition to the Municipalities of Strathclair and Shoal Lake, as both were involved in the proposed school district, "to give over as many sections as required from each Municipality to form a school district." An arbitrator from each Municipality and the school inspector met and decided to grant the petition, naming the District "Harey Hill," as the name suggests, from the number of rabbits that then infested the area. Ort August 25, 1894, the first school meeting was held for the elected trustees and the renaming of the school District. "Harey Hill" sounded none too musical for the picturesque site offered. "Wolfe Creek" was the name finally decided upon, from the abundance of Wolfe Willow growing in the District and from the "Creek" - Oak River, which meandered through the western part of the district.
