Notes Mrs. Ray Armstrong (Lena Shaw) was born in June, 1899. For as long as she can remember, the communion set was part of the church, even before there was a church building. Mrs. Armstrong's parents, Mr & Mrs. George Shaw, were married in July 1898. As a young couple they attended Marney Church. Mr. Shaw likely attended before marriage. By road allowance the Shaw homestead was four miles to the present Marney site. Mrs. Armstrong says that her mother spoke of the silver set as always being part of Marney. Therefore it dates back to sometime before 1898.
